Baltimore, MD - Food & Water Action announced today it’s endorsement of Delegate Mary Washington in the democratic primary for the 43rd district. Food & Water Action is the political arm of Food & Water Watch, which has played a leading role in passing recent environmental and social justice legislation in Maryland, including the 2017 fracking ban. Food & Water Action joins several other progressive organizations in endorsing Washington, but is the first environmental group to do so.
“We are thrilled to be backing a true champion of the people in this race,” said Mitch Jones, senior policy advocate with Food & Water Action. “Mary Washington has led the fight for safe, affordable water in Baltimore, and was an early supporter of our campaigns to ban fracking and enact tougher regulations on factory farms in our state. Her dedication to the people of her district, the city of Baltimore, and the state of Maryland is unparallelled.”
“The 43rd district deserves a senator who will fight every single day to make tangible improvements in people’s lives; Mary has been doing that with great success for years. We will be spending the next six weeks sharing Mary’s superior track record on the issues we work on with voters in the district.”
Food & Water Action has more than 3,500 supporters in the 43rd district. Volunteers will knock doors, call and text voters to share Washington’s positions on water affordability and climate change. The group is establishing an independent expenditure campaign to support Washington’s bid for Senate and plans to have thousands of conversations with voters in the district ahead of the June 26th primary.
