Food & Water Action, the political arm of the national advocacy organization Food & Water Watch, is endorsing Jennifer Lewis for the 6th congressional district in Virginia.
Lewis has been an essential voice in opposition to the proposed Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley Pipelines. She earned the group’s endorsement based on her pledge to stand with landowners in opposition to eminent domain takings that favor large for-profit corporations.
As president and founder of Friend of August, a local pipeline opposition group, Lewis has been fighting to stop detrimental pipeline infrastructure in Virginia that could also contaminate hundreds of streams and waterways in the state.
Lewis will be an environmental champion for the state of Virginia. She has also pledged to:
- Support reforming FERC so citizens and scientists have as much influence as fossil-fuel lobbyists
- Refuse contributions from Dominion Energy and Appalachian Power with Activate Virginia’s pledge
- Refuse contributions from the entire industry with the No Fossil Fuel Money pledge
Because Jennifer grew up on a small dairy farm in Virginia, she also knows the importance of protecting farming in our country. Just like in other industries, corporate conglomeration and monopolization have led to large agribusiness crushing competition from smaller farms. Lewis wants tough enforcement of antitrust laws in the industry.
“Jennifer Lewis has been outspoken in the fight against pipelines in Virginia since the beginning. Her undeniable commitment to democracy, human rights, and environmental protection has proven that she will lead Virginia to a safer future,” said Jorge Aguilar, Southern Region Director for Food & Water Action. “We look forward to seeing her in Washington to help lead the way against fossil fuel infrastructure in Virginia.”
