The midterm elections are heating up across the country, and here in Maryland, the Governor's Mansion and every seat in the General Assembly are up for grabs.
In order to protect the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the climate we all depend on, we need to elect progressive candidates who are ready to do the work.
That's why we're excited to announce our first round of endorsements of some incredible candidates in races across our state.
We're thrilled to share that we're endorsing Rich Madaleno for Governor. He's shown time and time again that he's willing to stand up to corporate interests and fight for the health of our environment and people.
As a state senator, Rich stood up the the oil and gas industry and fought for to our communities, our drinking water, and our climate. He was an early opponent of fracking and stood with communities in Western Maryland to oppose TransCanada's fracked-gas Potomac Pipeline, which Governor Hogan approved.
As governor, he will not support any new fracked gas infrastructure and will ensure Maryland is a climate leader by getting to 100% renewable energy by 2035.
Rich has led the fight to protect the health of residents on the Eastern Shore, farmworkers, and the Chesapeake Bay by reforming the practices of poultry factory farms.
Most recently, he sponsored common sense legislation that would simply let residents know what's in the air coming out of large chicken houses. The poultry industry killed that bill, but Rich has pledged to push for that air study when he is governor.
He knows that the undue influence of factory farming can't go unchecked, and as governor, he will hold the poultry industry accountable for their pollution.
In his 16 years representing Montgomery County in Annapolis, he's been instrumental in some of the biggest environmental victories for our State. He has the experience and the values we need to move Maryland forward on the environment.
