Baltimore, MD - “Baltimore voters made history today by electing Mary Washington as the Democratic Candidate for Senate in the 43rd district. This was a big upset, and it’s clear that the coalition of environmental, labor and progressive activists that Mary’s campaign brought together is stronger than ever in the 43rd.
“Food & Water Action was the only environmental organization to endorse Washington and openly challenge the powerful chair of the Senate environment committee. To that end, Food & Water Action staff and volunteers reached over 20,000 voters in the district through phone calls, text messages, digital ads and door-to-door canvassing. With new leadership representing the district in Annapolis, we now have the chance to pass critical legislation to protect the human right to water in Baltimore and across the state. Food & Water Action and our supporters look forward to supporting Washington in the general election and continuing our work to build political power to pass the policies needed to ensure safe, affordable water for all and to protect our environment.”
