The Mariner East 2 pipeline poses an enormous public safety hazard to Uwchlan Township, but current local elected officials have failed to protect Uwchlan residents from this dangerous pipeline.
That’s why Food & Water Action is working with community residents to elect Mayme Baumann and Bill Miller to Uwchlan Township Board of Supervisors. Mayme and Bill have pledged to do what it takes to protect their community from this pipeline.
ME2 does not carry ‘natural gas’ that we’d typically use to heat our homes or operate a kitchen stove. It carries exceptionally dangerous ethane, propane, butane, and pentane, materials called Highly Volatile Liquids. When super-pressurized in the pipeline, highly volatile liquids are in the liquid state. However, once a leak occurs, these chemicals vaporize, becoming a low-lying cloud of explosive, odorless gas. They do not disperse into the air. They travel with the wind. And once they find an ignition source, they explode.
Food & Water Action estimates that over 1,800 homes and 3,500 registered voters in Uwchlan live within the blast zone of this dangerous pipeline. Five schools, where over 2,500 Uwchlan-area children head to learn every day, are located within the blast radius. Lionville Middle School, with its 1,600 children, sits just 600 feet from these dangers.
Building a pipeline this dangerous this close to so many families should be illegal. In fact, it is. In Uwchlan Township, we have a local law that prohibits the construction of a pipeline this close to homes. But the current Uwchlan Board of Supervisors has refused to enforce this law.
Mayme Baumann and Bill Miller have committed to enforcing this law. They are the only candidates running for Uwchlan Board of Supervisors who will put our community’s well-being before the interests of the pipeline company.
Please join us on November 7 to protect our community from the Mariner East 2 pipeline by voting for Mayme Baumann and Bill Miller.
